Our first attempt at making donuts from scratch was victorious. We used our brand new doughnut pan and the great recipe found on the packaging.
- 2 cups flour, sifted
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted
Well, I must confess, we only had one egg, so the solution was to cut everything else into half. Despite this little handicap we came out with about 10 doughnuts (donuts), more than enough for a quick Sunday breakfast.
- In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs and butter. Beat batter until just combined.
- Preheat oven to 425 ºF. Spray each donut cup ( in donut pan) with cooking spray.
- Fill each donut cup with batter, 2/3 full.
- Bake 7-9 minutes or until the donut springs back when touched. Let cool in pan for about 4-5 minutes before removing.
Eat as is or glaze donuts with chocolate, cinnamon sugar or confectioner’s sugar. I prefer to eat as is and avoid the extra sugar. Enjoy with a cup of coffee, tea of milk.
Easy to make with kids or your hubbie. Enjoy!
